Hamann Motorsport on Rye
Richard Hamann, the brain behind Hamann Motorsport, knows his way around BMWs, having driven in DTM and thrice winning the German Spezial-Tourenwagen-Trophy behind the wheel of a self-prepared BMW M1. The company's most recent piece d'art is this firmly massaged Z4.
The HM 3.3 relies on the tried and true method of increased displacement, a long-throw crankshaft and larger diameter pistons coupled with modified rods, punching out the 3.0-liter to 3.3l. Topped off with a Hamann cylinder head, configured with sport cams, valve springs and porting, the engine delivers 286 bhp at 6200 rpm and 262 lb-ft (355Nm) of torque. Zero to 62 mph comes up in a short 5.0 sec., and for those blessed with a track or autobahn, the HM 3.3 is said to reach 270 km/h (167 mph).
Two suspension systems offer different levels of lowering, adjustability of the anti-roll bars and strut braces, and a front, four-piston sport brake system at 355mm diameter. Oversize wheels up to 19 in. in diameter are available in different exclusive Hamann designs. Front, rear and all sides are treated to a Hamann body kit said to reduce lift. As with most tuners, Hamann offers a complete line of accessories, accoutrements and gizmos to round out the package.
