Vehicle Data
2007 BMW 335i Coupe
Mileage: 36,873
Engine: 3.0-liter I6, turbocharged and intercooled
Transmission: Six-speed automatic
Testing octane: 91
Notes
The baseline and all subsequent tests were performed on the same day, using the same tank of 91-octane fuel. All quoted horsepower and torque numbers were measured at the wheels. It's also important to keep in mind that when properly calibrated the Mustang dyno produces fairly accurate horsepower and torque numbers. The numbers might seem low when compared to similar runs made on a Dynojet, roughly 10 percent or sometimes even greater if the dyno is improperly calibrated or the tests are run in a higher gear like fourth. While the numbers matter, it's the differences between the runs that help prove or disprove the validity of the manufacturer's power and torque claims.
Current Modifications
Miro CSL replica wheels, 8.5x19 (f), 9.5x19 (r)
Baseline*
Peak Power 250 hp @ 5642 rpm
Peak Torque: 260 lb-ft @ 3325 rpm
Dyno Data
Clayton Virtual Test Track (VTT) eddy current dyno (Mustang)
Ambient temp: 69? F
Test gear: Third
*All horsepower and torque figures quoted are measured at the wheels
Notes
The Juice Box Stage 3 comes from the factory set to Map 0 (stock/valet), so in order to get it to the desired setting following installation you must activate the gas pedal map switch mode. This is done by turning the ignition on with the engine off, holding the gas pedal down for four seconds, and then releasing. This puts the unit in listen mode; once there, all you have to do to select a map is tap the gas pedal the number of times that correspond to the desired setting. In this instance we wanted Map 1, so after the unit was put into listen mode we pressed the gas pedal only once. If at any time you're unsure of yourself, turn the vehicle off to start over; reactivating listen mode will reset the unit back to Map 0.
Performance
Peak power: 274 hp @ 5786 rpm
Peak torque: 273 lb-ft @ 3800 rpm
Max power gain: 24 hp @ 5786 rpm
Max torque gain: 24 lb-ft @ 3778 rpm
Pros
* PnP harness uses factory connectors for easy installation
* Each of the seven program maps loaded in the microcontroller-based module are switched by simply pressing the gas pedal
* Free software updates can be downloaded from the internet (requires optional chip burner to install)
* Multiple programs allows user to select the program that best fits the driving style, vehicles configuration, and location
* Stock/Valet map reduces the risk of abuse when the vehicle is not in your possession
* Smooth power delivery
Cons
* As with the factory plugs, PnP harness plugs are slightly loose in their housings and require extra attention when plugging them back into the ECU to ensure they line up
* No locking mechanism between the factory and plug and harness (easily correctable with electrical tape)
* To eliminate the chance of visual detection, unit must be completely removed when going in for service
Notes
All that was required for this test was activating the Juice Box map switch mode by pressing the gas pedal three times.
