Notes: The exhaust did not net as much horsepower and torque as we would have liked, the main reason being the restrictive nature of the stock catalytic converter. The system would benefit from a high-flow downpipe and catalytic converter. However, the stock exhaust was too quiet and the Techtonics system solved that problem, delivering a nice deep tone.
Conclusion
These basic bolt-on modifications show the Volkswagen 2.5-liter engine has potential. A few items we would like to see, to really allow the engine to shine, would be a set of high-lift cams, headers, and a high-flow downpipe and catalytic converter. As soon as these become available, we will check them out. We know there are a few companies working on turbo upgrades with promising results. The best thing about the 2007 Rabbit is that it costs about $15,000, leaving enough money for aftermarket upgrades.
