Evolution Motorsports Intake
Gains
Peak WHP: 209 hp @ 5300 rpm
Peak WTQ: 253 lb-ft @ 3442 rpm
Pros
*Roto-molded, high-temperature plastic intake plumbing offers decreased heat retention.
*Re-usable cotton air filter features a six-inch molded venturi, acting as a vacuum for cold air.
*High temperature air deflector/heat shield directs air from the factory fresh-air inlet duct while blocking radiant heat to ensure air entering the filter is as cool as possible.
*CNC mass airflow sensor housing ensures precise measurements.
*Removal of the stock airbox reduces the amount of heat retained in the intake manifold as well as the coil packs.
Cons
*Not-so-secure mounting.
*Hose clamps are a bit long.
*Multi-piece design requires a few adjustments for proper fit.

Notes
The intake's design and construction is high quality. The only downside is the installation of the intake requires a little tweaking, and the lack of secure mounting is a concern. A few large zip-ties correct the problem-not pretty, but effective. The intake gives crisp throttle response as well as a distinctive blow-off sound.

The Verdict
The Neuspeed software produces more power by increasing boost levels and recalibrating fuel and timing. It increases low-end torque and mid-range power rather than peak gains. The bolt-on modifications (intake, exhaust) increase horsepower and torque by pinpointing the limitations in the stock components and improving on their design. Both parts produce decent gains. The one major thing not reflected on the dyno charts is the individual components' abilities to increase driving pleasure and maintain constant usable power. The exhaust makes the turbo spool faster and the intake gives increased boost response. All these modifications represent a worthwhile investment, making the GTI an even better performer.
