Historical Perspective: BMW's Coupe Lineage

Perhaps the most famous of all BMW's coupes was the 3.0 CSL, available in both street and race trim. Initially produced in a carbureted version (165 were built) most of the 929 examples of the later, injected version ended up on the street. BMW Motorsport ran a highly successful racing version driven by such luminaries as Sam Posey, Hans Stuck, Niki Lauda and Ronnie Peterson. View Related Article
