The what principle?
I recently came across a very interesting principle that I think is in need of more exposure. I'm not sure if anyone on your staff has heard of it, the Somender-Singh groove principle. It's a way to increase engine efficiency by cutting a groove in the "squish area" of the cylinder head. Supposedly this provides better combustion, lower EGTs, lower idle speed, and more torque. I myself am planning to test it on my 2000 VW Passat but will have to wait until the weather is a little warmer.Doston StanleyBurlington, NJ
Mmmmkay... In order to make this modification you'd have to basically rebuild the entire upper half of the engine, with new head gaskets and cylinder head cleaning. After all that, you might say any gains are likely from simply rebuilding the head. Considering all the other mods you could make for the same cost, this would be last on our list. Oh, it also claims to lower the idle speed and reduce EGTs. On a VW Passat this would cause the computer to throw a check engine light, and lower EGTs could cause the vehicle to fail an emissions test. Still interested?
