With BMW taking an increasingly large role in the annual Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, it's perhaps no surprise to learn that it will unveil a new concept car at the event, perhaps with an eye on winning the coveted concept award.

The car is the result of cooperation with Italian styling house Pininfarina, and the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé will debut on May24.

This new car is being regarded as the sequel to the BMW Zagato Coupé that appeared at last year's Concorso. After years of BMW design taking the direction dictated by Chris Bangle, it's interesting to see the Germans introducing some Italian flair.

The new V12 concept is said to retain the hallmark BMW proportions, with a long wheelbase, stretched hood, short overhangs, set-back greenhouse and sloping roofline. To this, Pininfarina has added convex tapering to the side profile to produce a vehicle that is said to be both dynamic and elegant.

More details and images will emerge closer to the Concorso, and we'll bring you the updates when available.
