Vredestein has designed its newest tire, the Ultrac Vorti R, for power, precision and extreme grip. Constructed for sports cars such as the Porsche 911 and Lamborghini Gallardo, the Ultrac Vorti R's tread was developed with Italian design house, Giugiaro.
Even the name of the tire was given by Giugiaro, derived from vortex, relating back to the airflow on the blades of a helicopter as it takes off.
Designing tires for high performance cars is one thing, but partnering with companies like Carlsson and Hamann has had a big influence on the precision with which they constructed their newest tire.
With any tire, temperature plays a big part in how much grip is available. As temps go beyond a certain point, grip starts to fall away, so the construction of the Ultrac Vorti R means grip is available at a range of temperatures, thanks to the tread compound that features multiple resins activated at different temps. The result is a higher level of grip for longer periods.
Since these tires were designed specifically for high-end sports cars, different sizes for front and rear are essential. So the various sizes come with adjusted tread, which is constructed specifically for the rear axle on RWD cars. This adjustment of the belt angle helps to provide more road contact, while an extra groove in the central rib provides extra cooling.
For optimal road contact and handling, the tread on the Ultrac Vorti R is broader, which not only results in better stability and grip in a straight line, but also better handling in turns. Also contributing to better handling are the circumferential grooves with slanted flanks for enhanced block stability. And finally, further notches in the central ribs ensure the footprint is extended.
