It was only a matter of time before Lamborghini released the topless version of their Aventador, though it seems like it took them a bit longer than expected this time around. We’ll see how many other versions they can come up with, because if the Gallardo is any hint, there will be many more hyphens and numbers to come.

Really though, while the Aventador is hands down one of the fastest and best performing super cars of today, the Roadster will “set the benchmark in the world of open-top luxury super sports cars.” But how will it fair against Ferrari’s 458 and McLaren’s 12c Spider? It’d be a showdown, that’s for sure.

The new Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster sports a two-piece roof made entirely from carbon fiber. In total, we’re talking about 13 lb here, which is good for two reasons. One is obvious—your roof weighs only 13 lb, not bad. The other, which you may not have thought about, is that if you want your hair blowing in the wind at 200mph, you’ll have to remove the two piece roof yourself and put it in the front luggage compartment.

Aside from the roof, though, there are differences between the Roadster and coupe version. The engine hood on the Roadster has a central “spinal column” with two pairs of hexagonal windows connected at the sides. This helps cool the engine, drain off rainwater and allows a nice view of the massive V12 for gawkers.

Interior engine volume can be adjusted with the powered rear windshield, and if you’re like us, you’ll just be leaving that as open as possible, with the radio switched off.

The range of colors for the Roaster has been supplemented with Azzuro Thetis, a very light metallic blue, with a tone depending on the angle of the light hitting it. This pays homage to the 1968 Miura Roadster.

Even the interior has a new look. The use of leather called Sabbia Nefertem highlights the superb hand-made craftsmanship of the upholstery from Sant' Agata Bolognese and is a perfect match for the exterior in Azzuro Thetis. Finally, the new Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster also features new Dione 20"/21" rims with a daring, aggressive look. Crafted in light forged aluminum, they lower the weight of the vehicle by 22 lb as compared with the standard set of rims.

Oh, and yes, the Aventadora LP700-4 Roadster sprints to 60mph in 3 seconds flat and will top out around 217mph. You can launch it all day, every day, for the price of 300,000 euro, which will come out around $381,000 plus/minus taxes/fees.
