Set to make its global debut at the 2012 LA Auto Show, Jaguar is unleashing its top-of-the-range XF model, the XFR-S.
Jaguar has been reinventing itself as a performance driven company with leading design and an eye on its heritage. And with BMW setting the benchmark in out-of-the-box performance machines, Jag is keen to hit the enthusiast right between the eyes.
With the new F-Type flagship poised to cast a big performance shadow over the Jag lineup, the future looks bright for the Leaping Cat. And the XFR-S is clearly aiming at the M5, which has dominated the high-po sedan market for decades.
While the XFR came close to kicking the M5 off its podium, the XFR-S might just do the trick. Of course, we won't know until we get some proper seat time in the car but the numbers look good: Marked as a 2014 model, only 100 of the 5.0-liter V8 supercharged cars will be coming to the US. With 550hp and 502 lb-ft it boasts staggering performance numbers such as 0-60mph in 4.4sec and a top track speed of 186mph.
The XFR-S also receives an entirely new aero kit, no doubt inspired by the XKR-S. Constructed almost entirely from carbon fiber, the aero kit is claimed to reduce lift by 68%.
The car will sit on forged 20" Varuna wheels with wider tires to maximize traction for the powerful sedan. The suspension has also received attention with a 30% increase in lateral stiffness.
Inside, the XFR-S will receive carbon leather with contrast micro-piping and stitching, similar to that of the XK.
The limited-edition and highly potent XFR-S is set to go on sale in Summer 2013 starting at $99000.
