It was inevitable. As soon as a new generation of Mercedes-Benz SL roadster came out, there was bound to be an AMG version soon after. Hence the 2013 SL63 AMG, deploying a 5.5-liter V8 that uses two turbochargers to conjure up 530 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. An optional performance pack brings output up to 557 and 664, respectively. The rear wheels receive their drive via a seven-speed automatic transmission. Running with the pack, zero to 60 mph is dashed off in 4.1 seconds and top speed is 186 mph. There’s all the other AMG stuff that comes with it, such as an adaptive suspension, bigger brakes and aero kit. The body is fashioned from aluminum, while the roof is a retractable hard top with the option of a glass panel featuring Magic Sky Control, whereby the pane darkens at the touch of a button. The SL63 AMG comes out later this year.
