Although it will be a wait until the new generation of Audi A3 comes along, there is a new variant of the present model: an all-electric vehicle called the A3 e-tron. This was introduced at the 2012 TED talks in Long Beach, Calif. For anyone unfamiliar with TED, it’s a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading good ideas. Audi’s good idea is a limited test program of a fleet of A3 e-trons in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver and Washington D.C. Using a lithium-ion battery pack, the car’s range is around 90 miles, top speed is 90 mph and torque is a healthy 199 lb-ft. “We will integrate the data generated from this program into the launch of a range of Audi e-tron models for American drivers,” said Jeff Curry, Audi of America’s e-mobility chief.
