If you were just starting to think your McLaren MP4-12C was a little slow, or perhaps you were thinking about a different supercar because it only has 592hp, well think again.

McLaren has introduced an enhanced version of the car with an extra 24hp, taking maximum power to 616hp.

What’s more, a range of enhancements will be offered to existing 12C owners as a complimentary upgrade to the latest specification – unheard of in automotive circles!

It seems that rather than sitting on its laurels, McLaren Automotive, has developed a package that will make the 12C more invigorating to drive and even easier to live with.

Headlining the changes is the 24hp power increase that gives more vivid acceleration at track speeds with no loss in efficiency.

Modifications were made to the engine software mapping and SSG transmission to increase responsiveness.

The 12C’s unique Intake Sound Generator (ISG) system, which controls the amount of engine intake sound within the cabin, is now programmable across three levels in all Powertrain modes, allowing the driver to select the amount of noise he wants to enjoy.

To improve safety, the 12C’s headlights will automatically switch on when rain is detected by the windshield-mounted rain sensor.

The 12C’s Climate Control System will be modified exclusively for 2013 models.

In addition to the standard ‘AUTO’ function of the system; new cars will be supplied with systems inclusive of ‘AUTO LO’ function. This enables the desired cabin temperature to be reached in the quietest way possible, using lower fan speeds.

A new paint finish will be added to the options list: Volcano Yellow joins the ‘Elite’ set of paint finishes available for the revised model, and promises to be as spectacular as the popular Volcano Orange and Volcano Red finishes.

A new wheel design will be offered to future 12C owners along with a new wheel finish. The new five-spoke forged wheel may be specified for the 12C and is available in standard Silver, optional Stealth and eye-catching Diamond Cut finishes. The latter is first finished in Graphite Grey, then diamond-cut to reveal the forged metal surface. The entire wheel is then protected with a topcoat, which adds a high gloss.

An new semi-aniline leather has been added to the options, applied to all major interior surfaces including doors, seats, dash and console. It includes flat piping around the perimeter of the seat and along the edge of the door card insert. The piping finish will be in Carbon Black unless requested in McLaren Orange, Harissa Red or Stone Grey.

Vehicle Lift will be available as an option on 2013 vehicles. The system allows the 12C to be raised by up to 40mm at the front and 25mm at the rear, and may remain in position at up to 60kph for improved ground clearance.

The McLaren badge, which carries the official moniker ‘Speed Marque’, will be modified and available in two different new finishes. Mounted on the front luggage lid, rear deck, steering wheel and wheel caps, the subtly revised Speed Marque may be specified in Rocket Red/Silver as standard, or Stealth/Silver as an option.
