There was much gnashing of teeth and rending of garments when only 90 of the 333 limited edition, 560-hp R8 GT coupes were earmarked for the United States. But life sometimes throws us a second chance. Another short-run R8 GT, this time a convertible, is being produced in the same numbers. The Spyder’s top speed will be a couple of miles an hour slower and the sprint to 60 mph will take a couple more tenths (still under four seconds, though), while the sticker price is expected to be another $20,000 on top of the coupe’s $196,800 (so the dentists who fixed all those gnashed teeth can afford it). One advantage with the roof down, however, is the ability to relish that fantastic exhaust note even more.
