  • Features unique carbon fiber diffuser and side blades
  • Parts can be retro-fitted to existing 650S or MP4-12C models
  • Concept will tour China amongst Beijing Auto Show

Following some criticisms of the McLaren MP4-12C, the British carmaker recently released the 650S Coupe. This was designed to silence the critics but it seems that McLaren isn’t afraid to optimize the new car within months of its release.

In fact, McLaren Special Operations, the bespoke division within McLaren Automotive, has unveiled this 650S Coupe Concept ahead of a Chinese tour. The McLaren 650S Coupe Concept will travel to major cities to show off its bespoke features, that include a new carbon fiber rear diffuser and carbon fiber side blades.

These parts will be available from MSO for the existing McLaren 650S Coupe and 650S Spider, if customers wish to fit them. The Concept itself was painted in ‘Agrigan Black’. It’s a metallic black developed in-house with a deep ruby red metallic flake. This gives the bodywork a dramatic color-change in direct sunlight.

The paint is contrasted by the extensive use of satin-finished carbon fiber highlights, including the front splitter and air intakes plus the new side blades and diffuser.

Both the side blades and GT3-inspired rear diffuser are claimed to increase aerodynamic downforce, serving as a useful addition to the car. The engine bay of the McLaren 650S Coupe Concept was further enhanced with satin-black engine covers and a satin finish on all the carbon fiber parts. The exterior was completed with a satin-black finish on the lightweight 650S Coupe wheels, which are shod with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.

The McLaren 650S Coupe Concept cockpit has unique fixed-back carbon fiber seats. Finished in carbon black leather, they were based on the design found in the McLaren P1. In additional to providing extra support and seating the occupants lower in the car, they also saved 33 lb.

Satin carbon fiber features were also used extensively throughout the cabin, along with contrasting gloss black switches and bezels. The MSO side blades and rear diffuser are available to order from McLaren retailers for either the 650S or MP4-12C models. Pricing is approximately $8600 and $12180 respectively.
