The 2014 Porsche 911 Targa had its world premiere at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Michigan, on Monday, January 13. The AWD, glass-topped, non-convertible sports car is coming to market in two different variants, the Targa 4 and 4S, with the slight performance advantage going expectedly to the 4S.

The 991 Targa 4 flosses a 3.4-liter six-cylinder boxer engine that outputs 350hp and 287 ft-lb of torque. Power is handed off to either a seven-speed manual or seven-speed PDK semi-automatic transmission and sent out to all four corners, propelling the Porsche to 60mph in just 5sec. Helping the car stick are MacPherson struts in front and a multi-link suspension in back, and the new Targa 4 also features electromechanical power steering, 2+2 seating, and 19-inch standard wheels.

The Targa 4S gets a slight bump in engine displacement, to 3.8 liters, which equates to 50 more ponies, 38 more lb-ft of torque, and a 0 to 60mph time of 4.6sec. The 4S also receives 20s instead 19s for rims, but apart from those key differences the two trim packages appear very similar.
