If exclusivity is what you look for in a car, then look no further than the second edition to the six-part
"Les Legendes de Bugatti" (Bugatti Legends) series, which pays tribute to company founder's (Ettore
Bugatti) oldest son, Jean Bugatti. Appropriately named "Jean Bugatti," this exclusive black beauty Veyron
is limited to just three examples and costs a hefty $3.9 million (plus tax and charges).
The first of the six-part series, "Jean-Pierre Wilmille" edition, launched at Pebble Beach during the 2013
Monterey Car Week, which drew inspiration from its historical predecessor, the 1937 Bugatti Type 57G
The "Jean Bugatti" recently was unveiled at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany. It
follows the historical lineage of the Type 57SC Atlantic, created by Jean Bugatti as a motorsport version
of the standard model.
"Jean Bugatti is a Bugatti legend," stated Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, President of Bugatti Automobiles SAS.
"Along with his father Ettore, Jean played a critical role in shaping our brand. Jean managed to combine
the artistic roots of Bugatti with his father's innovative automotive technology, and from that developed
a design which is still reflected in the brand today, finding expression in our brand values of 'Art, Forme,
Following the concept of its historic predecessor, the exterior is constructed entirely from jet black,
clear-coated carbon fiber. Platinum is used on the Bugatti horseshoe, placed on the front grille, in
addition to the EB logo on rear. This metal is used for the first time on the exterior of modern Bugattis.
The wheels feature a black diamond-cut rim while a unique signature of Jean Bugatti has been lasered
into the Arctic grey oil cap.
Careful to follow the motif of the historic La Voiture Noire, the interior is fully-fitted with leather. Brown
and beige tones are found through the entire interior space, with the seats, instrument panel, steering
wheel, dash panel, center console, door trim panels and windshield crossmember are all featured in a
chocolate brown. This brown is contrasted by a light beige silk color across the extended center console
and continues in the footwell, outer door trim panels and handle recesses. A silhouette of the Type 57SC
is embroidered onto the brown doors and the cover of the rear storage compartment in a contrasting
Additionally, a leather insert embossed with the lettering "Les Legendes de Bugatti" can be seen on the
extended section of the center console and the door sill plate also featuring the signature of Jean
History of the Type 57SC Atlantic:
Four of these gorgeous automobiles were built between 1936 and 1938 (before Jean's accidental death
in 1939), while only two remain today in their original condition. Jean wanted to offer a motorsports
version of the standard model and thus, the SC (supercharged) was produced.
Jean was responsible for the shape and styling of the Atlantic, which featured an aluminum body,
further accentuating its unique and unmistakable design element of the dorsal seam, running from the
windshield to the rear bumper. This not only gives the Atlantic a unique look, but also holds together the
cars two halves. This plays a fundamental role in Bugatti cars made today.
