- Mercedes wagon goes head-to-head with an Icon Derelict
- Benz goes 0-60mph in 3.4sec while the Derelict gets there in 5.1sec
- E63 AMG S Wagon is rarest Benz sold in America, not even listed on website
- Icon Derelict features 6.1L Hemi V8 from a Charger SRT8
'Station wagon' and 'high-performance' don't typically go hand-in-hand. But when you take the
Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S model on the drag strip or any back road, those words become one. Before
you even ask 'how fast can a wagon really go,' we'll tell you. A ridiculous 3.4sec to 60mph is how fast.
Not impressed? Jonny Lieberman had this to say, "you know that Shelby GT500 with 662hp that all the
kids are always talking about? Well, that takes 3.5sec to 60mph and it weighs 800 lb less! Sorry Shelby
fans but the station wagon is faster than your big snake!"
Throughout the video Lieberman was impressed with not only how it drove but also the car overall.
Coming out with statements like, "This is crazy! What an animal of a station wagon, of any car!" The
Mercedes' M157 5.5L twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 577hp and 590 lb-ft of torque isn't the only
impressive part, though. It's plush interior, interior space and body style does not scream extreme
performance though. "Almost every surface in the E63 is covered with leather, carbon fiber or
Alcantara. Very luxurious, it's very nice in here. My point is, though, is that if you get the average person
in here and say 'what do you think,' they would say 'wow, what a nice luxury station wagon.' They're not
going to know that it's one of the fastest production cars in the world."
But then the Icon Derelict comes into view and most anyone would crease their brow in concerned
doubt. Icon is a company out of the San Fernando Valley in California that produces around 40 custom
vehicles per year. This Derelict features a great patina and custom touches that might go unnoticed
unless you pop the hood. This Derelict is based off a 1952 Chrysler Town & Country Custom Wagon with
a Desoto front clip. Under the hood lies a beast of an engine: 6.1L Hemi V8 out of a Charger SRT8 with
an estimated 450hp and 450 lb-ft. Apart from the motor, its technology is vintage so you might not
expect it to fare so well next to the modern Benz, but as Lieberman said, "this thing handles pretty damn
well. I'm kind of shocked at how well it goes around a corner." It also made an impressive time on the
strip going from 0-60mph in just 5.1sec. Something you won't hear about the Mercedes is what
Lieberman also added about the Icon Derelict, "That's the thing about this car; it's just dripping with
But we won't spoil the winner for you. That is reason enough to watch the video.
