Following behind last year's new Vanquish, Volante now sits at the pinnacle of
the British carmaker's lineup. It retains the coupe's good looks and dynamic
performance, as well as its 183mph top speed thanks the folding fabric roof,
tonneau and decklid being aerodynamically tuned for high performance.
Setting new standards, this will be Aston's first carbon fiber-bodied Volante in the
brand's 100-year history. It's triple-skinned fabric roof can be operated at speeds
up to 30mph and takes just 14sec to fold, making it almost as fast as the car itself.
As with the coupe, the Vanquish Volante takes styling cues like the elegant waist,
elongated side strakes and LED rear light blades from the One-77 supercar.
The 2+2 cabin is wrapped in full grain Luxmil leather with optional quilting, while
Alcantara and satin chrome underscore the luxury nature.
The new center console is said to be more intuitive and accessible for both driver
and front seat passenger. It's another descendent of the One-77, giving the
Vanquish and Volante familiar elements such as the engine start button and gear
selection buttons, while featuring a new infotainment system and more user-
Glass buttons with illumination and haptic feedback feature in the rest of the
center stack's switchgear. Haptic feedback is more commonly found in
touchscreen mobile phones, but Aston Martin became among the first luxury car
manufacturer to use the technology in a production model when it debuted on
Vanquish coupe in 2012.
Under the carbon fiber hood is the latest generation AM11 naturally aspirated
6.0-liter V12 engine that drives the rear wheels via a Touchtronic 2 six-speed
automatic transmission. The 565hp peak power arrives at 6750rpm, while peak
torque of 457 lb-ft is available at 5500rpm.
Thanks to new production techniques, the gen4 VH body architecture is
extremely rigid, allowing the Vanquish Volante to be 13% torsionally stiffer than
the DBS Volante that preceded it.
This rigid structure provides a solid foundation for the suspension to control the
vehicle effectively. It uses Aston Martin's Adaptive Damping System (ADS) that
allows the driver to switch between three modes: Normal, Sport and Track,
delivering instant adjustment of the car's ride and handling characteristics.
The ADS automatically alters the suspension settings to ensure the driver has
high levels of control at all times, with the ability to respond quickly to different
The damper settings are determined by an ECU that uses the car's throttle
position, brake position, steering rotation and vehicle speed. This data
establishes the prevailing driving conditions and the demands the driver is
making on the car.
The brakes features Brembo's third generation Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM)
brakes to deliver shorter stopping distances with resistance to fade. The CCM
brakes are lighter than a conventional system, further enhancing the
performance of the suspension.

The front brakes use 398x36mm CCM rotors and six-piston calipers from the
One-77, while the rear uses 360x32mm rotors with four-piston calipers.
Priced from $297,995 in the US, deliveries of the 2014 Vanquish Volante are
expected to begin early next year.
