Porsche is in a field of its own when it comes to racing, claiming over 28000 race wins in almost every series worldwide. So a special model will debut at Silverstone for the World Endurance Championships where Porsche will not only celebrate the new RSR, but also the 911's 50th anniversary.
The Type-991 Porsche 911 RSR will feature a rear-mounted 4-liter flat-six engine with 460hp, using extra lightweight parts for the optimal performance. Running in the 6 Hours of Silverstone and later the Le Mans 24 Hours will be two 911 RSRs from Porsche AG works team Team Manthey.
In order to get the best performance from the 911 RSR, some modifications and improvements were made. Just like the road car, the wheelbase was extended 3.9", while the McPherson struts were replaced with a wishbone front suspension. The center of gravity is lower, which makes the six-speed paddle shift transmission even more rewarding.
Carbon fiber parts help with weight reduction. The front and rear wheel housing, front and rear lids, doors, underbody, wheel arches, rear wing, dashboard and center console are all made from carbon fiber. And further reducing weight are polycarbonate windows as well as a lithium-ion battery.
The updated body style adds flared wheel arches and deep, front air intakes. Most of the major body panels are fitted with quick-release systems for fast replacement within in seconds.
Driving #91 RSR in the GTE-Pro class will be Joerg Bergmeister and Patrick Pilet, and for Silverstone, Spa and Le Mans races, they will be joined by Timo Bernhard.
Driving #92 RSR are Marc Lieb and Richard Lietz, who will be joined by Romain Dumas at Silverstone, Spa and Le Mans.
There will also be two customer teams driving last year's Porsche 911 GT3 RSR (Type 997) in the GTE-Am class.
