With the announced merger of Grand-Am and the American Le Mans Series, one of the biggest questions hanging over the new series concerns the tire supply. With Grand-Am currently using tires from Continental and Pirelli supplying ALMS, there currently seems to be no final decision over which company will get the exclusive deal moving forward.
However, there has been a small breakthrough that might indicate the future of the new series. Today Continental announced it would be the exclusive tire supplier for the Prototype Challenge (PC) class in the ALMS presented by Tequila Patrón for 2013.
Furthermore, Continental will also become the presenting sponsor of the PC class, which will be known as "Prototype Challenge presented by Continental Tire".
The PC class will debut at the Continental Tire-sponsored, ALMS-sanctioned test on March 11-12 at Sebring Raceway in Florida. The class will use the same tire as used in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype (DP) class.
Continental will provide full support at all ALMS races in 2013 and its logos will be placed on all PC cars. Furthermore, Continental will air commercials during the ALMS broadcasts on ABC, ESPN2 and Speed.
Continental Tire will continue to be the exclusive supplier to the Grand-Am Rolex Series as well as the title sponsor of the Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series.
