Following the announcement of the 350 hp Polestar edition of the Volvo S60 for sale in Australia comes
news that Volvo will return to Australian motorsport next year. The team will be run by Polestar (Volvo's
global motorsports partner) and they'll use the Volvo S60 with a V8 engine to comply with V8 Supercars
"I'm delighted to announce Volvo's return to motorsport in Australia. Volvo has a rich motorsport
heritage in this country, including winning Australia's most famous race, the Bathurst 1000, 15 years ago
this October. As the first luxury car brand to enter an official factory team in the V8 Supercars
Championship, we're determined to add to this heritage, while strengthening the presence of the S60
model line and the Volvo brand here in Australia," said Matt Braid from Volvo Cars Australia.
Originally hosting only Ford and Holden teams, the V8 Supercar series opened up to other marques this
year and now includes Nissan and Mercedes-AMG entries among its ranks.
The cars will be built by Garry Rogers Motorsport, with Polestar providing the V8 engines. They will
prepare two cars for testing and will compete in the 2014 series. The aim is to add to Volvo's rich racing
heritage in Australia that includes the 1986 Australian Touring Car Championship win (in a 240 Turbo
