Maybe it's the thing about necessity making strange bedfellows. Or-in this case, perhaps-being the mother of reinvention. Whatever the motives behind it, the Aston Martin Cygnet, a two-door supermini, represents a collaboration between car companies at opposing ends of the excitement spectrum. The Cygnet is based on Toyota's upcoming iQ city car, but given the upscale treatment by AM. "Our customers need a small car for urban and city use," says Aston, "without compromising intelligence, artistry, and personality." And that's the thing: the Cygnet will only be available to existing customers when it goes into production in 2011. At least initially. And it isn't even certain whether it will go on sale in the United States. Ah well, we could always drive around in what will be the 1.3-liter Scion iQ. Doesn't that sound like fun?
