It must be at least a year since we last said that VW was considering its options regarding a subcompact to sell in the USA. Apparently, those who make such decisions are still pondering, so let's try and move them along a bit. Bring the damn Polo over here and make sure the GTI is part of the range. We can think of plenty of potential buyers who would jump at the chance to own a handy little car that can achieve 39 mpg with a 1.4-liter engine, but still rush to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds thanks to a supercharger and a turbocharger under the same hood. We're talking 180 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque here. And who couldn't love a seven-speed DSG transmission with a fancy electronic differential for lively handling, accompanied by fetching 17-inch alloy wheels?
