Differing from a hatchback the station wagons are based on a sedan body with the passenger area extended to the rear window. Station wagons have windows in the cargo area which hatchbacks don't. The car remains at its full high all the way to the rear of the car where a hatchback would slope in the rear. A station wagon is clearly car by its car-like features in front, which an SUV or Minivan have distinctly different forward designs.
