What's wrong with you people?
A full issue (November 2008) dedicated to Porsche? Has is ever crossed your mind that there are readers out there that do not give a crap about Porche, Audi or VW? That seems to be the only cars you've been covering in depth in the last year. Come on, there's a rainbow of exciting cars you can cover in your magazine. Ironic, generally we get letters and face to face feedback that we don't have enough VW/Audi coverage and you seem to think the opposite. In this issue we also had an Alfa Romeo and BMW feature, an oil buyers guide, as well as new products for any car. I guess the old adage is right: if you try to please everybody you end up pleasing no one.
Mom and Dad strike again
I'm a recent subscriber as a result of selling my 2002 WRX wagon and 1996 Z28 in order to buy a modified 2000 Audi TT. I didn't know just how modified until getting it home. I especially liked the piece on G.I. Joe (Icon, November '08) As a child growing up in the 1960s, my brother and I had quite a collection of G.I. Joe action figures. (We also had a lot of Aurora HO slot car track and cars.) We spent many hours with the other neighborhood boys fighting "wars" with our G.I. Joes. We moved from Ross, California after I finished 8th grade in the summer of 1970. When we moved to Denver in the summer of 1970 and began unpacking, many a question arose from my three sisters, my brother and me started with, "Hey! Where is my..." It turns out our parents felt we had "outgrown" most of our toys, so they donated them before we moved without our knowledge! Even my Cox Dragster! Oh, the humanity!Scott RobbDale City, VA
Just received the November issue. Regarding the article on synthetic oil, I can't believe you omitted Amsoil. I believe they introduced the first can of synthetic in the U.S. in 1972. I've used it in both my Audies and in two 200hp, two-cycle Yamahas.Gary OntkoSandusky, OH
Make or brake
Your article on the brake upgrade for the 2004 Cooper S was very enticing. I'm trying to upgrade the brakes on a 2003 Cooper S. I have 16-inch genuine Minilites on the car and I'm experiencing a lot of difficulty trying to determine what will fit correctly. OEM dimensions are 10.9 inches front and 10.2 rear. As far as I can measure, the wheel rim to rim is 15.75 inches, and the measurement from the inside, lug surface to a center point on a straight line across the diameter reads 5.75 inches. What do you think will fit? I'm looking at JCW, Wildwood as well as your solution but they seem too large.Bill HartCrompond, NY
A stage one upgrade is pads, rotors, lines and fluid, which is generally more than enough for most applications and obviously fits fine since outside dimensions won't change. If you are spending a lot of time on track and need more braking power, most aftermarket companies have printable templates either for download off their websites or they can email you so you can check on your wheels. They are basically a silhouette of the caliper and rotor that you fit inside the wheel to check for fitment.
