With a shape and layout that defied the logic of its time, the venerable Porsche 356 had a stage run of more than 15 years. It has been a daily driver and grocery go-getter, was able to cruise at relatively high speeds while remaining economical, and attracted a following of enthusiasts who keep subscriptions to those kinds of magazines. The 356 never looked out of place at the beach or at a ski lodge (usually with a sand or snow bunny or two). Time moves on, but the 356 did not go quietly to its grave; it remains a highly prized collectible for the concours set and a much sought-after ride for historic and vintage racing. Due to developments since this car first appeared almost 60 years ago, the basic design is faster and better handling than the old doctor might have ever imagined.
