Supersprint Sport And Powerloop Mufflers
Supersprint has been designing and manufacturing high quality performance exhaust systems since 1955. Over more than 50 years, the Italian company has gained a great deal of experience and technical expertise for full exhaust performance evaluations to ensure added power, quality sound, and TV-approved status for all its street systems. The current range of aftermarket exhaust system applications covers more than 30 auto manufacturers from Europe, Asia and North America.
Many exhaust system manufacturers utilize the cheaper baffled chamber design for their mufflers. This suppresses sound by bouncing the incoming gases and sound waves through a series of baffled chambers and barriers. Unfortunately, the collision of exhaust gases with the internal barriers creates turbulence, which in turn disrupts the velocity of the exiting gas and results in reduced performance.
In contrast, Supersprint mufflers use a flow-through resonated design to ensure maximum power output. There are no chambers or baffles to reduce exhaust velocity. The design concept of the flow-through resonated muffler is simple but significantly more expensive to produce. The exhaust gases enter the muffler and then travel through a perforated tube. These gases and sound waves expand into the packing material, thereby reducing noise.
Currently, Supersprint uses two different types of flow-through resonated mufflers to satisfy customers' sound level requirements and also conform to the given space on a particular application. The first type is the louder 'Sport' single flow-through resonated design as described above. The second is the patented 'Powerloop' double flow-through design. This was developed to accommodate the limited muffler space on many newer vehicles, while still adhering to Supersprint's proven flow-through technology and street-legal sound level restrictions. Supersprint's solution is to loop the exhaust through the muffler housing twice, for additional noise suppression within a smaller space. Note that the longer the exhaust path in a flow-through resonated muffler (whether it be a single or double flow-through design), the quieter the exhaust note. The muffler's internal flow-through resonated tubes are designed to match the selected system tubing, and bends are as gentle as possible so as not to create turbulence or restriction.
For durability over time, Supersprint selects high-quality materials such as 304 stainless steel for the mandrel bent tubing and for the silencer box. The packing is a special heat resistant long strand rock wool-selected for the best performance, noise suppression, and longevity. This material can resist temperatures over 1800 degrees F and keeps decibel levels constant over many years. Also, Supersprint uses high-quality flanges, seals, couplers, and perfectly positioned OE-like hanger systems for easy mounting and proper fit.
Supersprint Sport and Powerloop mufflers are carefully designed for each specific make and model application with the entire exhaust system in mind. This results in both improved performance and quality sound. -Doug Neilson
