Since the downpipes remove the warm-up catalyst from the exhaust stream, they are for off-road use only. The AWE cat-free downpipes are used, but they are neither CARB- nor DOT-certifiable. AWE indicated they improve boost response and control and can free up about 20 hp, depending on the state of tune of the vehicle.
AWE carries all three of the spring /shock kits offered by H&R for the S4, and each is represented here. The carbon-hooded car uses Sport performance springs and Bilsteins. The Silver Bullet is fitted with a set of CPP front camber-correcting end-links to augment its Ultra coilovers. The Ultra kit uses a higher spring rate than the standard Street coilover kit, which is fitted to the black Avant. "All three have their place in the market, and each has its following," Todd said.
In the brake department, the black wagon is stopped by a Brembo 355mm F50 four-piston brake system, while Silver Bullet has Goodridge stainless-steel lines and Mintex "Red Box" brake pads on otherwise stock brakes, as does the carbon-hooded car. Todd stated the stock brakes are more than enough for street driving, but brake upgrades are necessary for track use.
As far as body kits are concerned, these are from other vendors, as AWE does not consider itself to be a body kit or appearance operation, though it does offer a few RS4 body parts for S4 owners. The carbon hood is from GTP, while the front bumper on the milder silver S4 is from Siedl. The Silver Bullet has a lot of custom bodywork performed by Cedar Brook Auto Body-an RS4 bumper and front end by SGI, a JE Designs rear spoiler and WetWorks Garage custom taillights. All the cars are fitted with HRE wheels. The black wagon wears HRE 540 Series 8.5x19-in. wheels with Toyo T1-S tires (235/35-19 front and rear), while the Silver Bullet sports 8.5x18-in. HRE 446R Series wheels mounted with 225/40-18 Toyo T1-S tires up front and 255/35-18s in the rear. The carbon-hooded car is shod with Falken GRB FK451 tires, 215/40-18s up front and 245/35-18s in the rear. All of the S4s shown are fitted with Valeo European-spec headlights and high-quality Omori gauges.
