Jetta GTRRPI referred to this car as "just another Jetta VR6," a description that seemed entirely too brief. There was something about the "correctness" of its lines that bespoke a Motorsport lineage.
Andrew Sutton, owner of this sled, had exactly that in mind, a car that would do Wolfsburg proud. The striking Votex aerodynamic kit is straight out of VW's catalog, consisting of Euro-spec front and rear bumper caps and side skirts. European-spec headlights with Kamei eyelids augment the program, as do ABD's Sportgrille, Hagus M3 heated/power side mirrors, an M3 rear trunk spoiler and Hella's tinted rear taillights.
So far, so good. Brakes were upgraded to RPI's massive 13-in. units, gripped by humongous Wilwood calipers stuffed with Hawke pads. The rear binders are 10.1-inchers from the 225-bhp Audi TT and feature Mintex pads. Jump from a two-story building and you get an idea of its decelerative properties.
The 12-valve VR6 features Schrick's 260-264 cams, ABD's Q-Flow Big Bore intake and a brilliantly programmed GIAC chip. Spent gases trumpet from SuperSprint's cat-back exhaust.
Underpinnings are FK adjustable coilovers (manufactured in Germany, utilizing Koni adjustable inserts) with sizable ABD swaybars and its upper strut tie bar. BBS' classic RC wheels measure 18 in. and carry 225/40-18 Pirelli P7000 Supersport tires.
The cabin was fitted with Sparco Torino seats and VW's Euro-anniversary trim kit, and the A-pillar fairing now holds an oil pressure gauge and oil temp gauge.
This car is quite possibly the most refined aftermarket VW I've ever driven, a striking tribute to both Volkswagen's sound engineering and the manic energies of a bunch of Canadian performance geeks.
