When it came time to tally the final votes, we all agreed the Mercedes had the most impressive engine, even if it was thanks to its 577hp S specification. It also sounded the best and delivered the most smiles per mile.
When it came to picking the best chassis, Alex and Ezekiel initially threw their lot behind the E63, while I was torn between it and the Jaguar. I really enjoyed the AMG but couldn't get the Jaguar's deceptive performance out of my mind. In fact, both Alex and I would agree that the XFR-S was our top pick by a small margin.
And this was the point I reached after completing the road test, after the video, after a second discussion with the team, and for the subsequent weeks until now. As I sit at my desk to compose this article, I genuinely can't decide which car should win our Super-Sedan shoot-out.
The coward's way out would be to nominate the Audi RS7 as the best car if you are looking for a capable daily driver that will eat miles and provide plenty of entertainment. While the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S would be the top pick for anybody who wants to pass unnoticed but terrorize motorists on the freeway and own the canyons. However, the Jaguar XFR-S was equally adept at all these disciplines, and gets further kudos for being limited to just 100 models in its first year. Inevitably, we'd shy away from its giant rear wing, we'd also fit aftermarket wheels and order it in dark grey to tone down the body kit...
So which car wins?
The majority went for the Mercedes-Benz and I can't find enough reasons to contradict it, especially when the E63 AMG is available as an uber-cool wagon.
I still have a nagging desire to put the Jaguar in first place but it was outclassed at the end of the day. However, I will restate that nobody would be disappointed with any of these cars. Each one far exceeds the demands of daily duties and out-performs 99% of the vehicles on the road. If you have the money, we'd encourage you to test-drive all three and relish the opportunity to make your own decision.
