Nine years ago a few enthusiasts in the automotive industry got together and formed European Auto Source (EAS). Since it has become a respected name in the BMW tuning world. The team brought a daily driven 2008 BMW Z4 M Coupe. EAS felt there would be some limitations due to its street nature but felt overall it was pretty solid due to its weight advantage and rigid chassis.
Steve Lee, European Auto Source representative said, “It is primary a street car but it is also a weekend track car. We want to see how competitive it is as a daily driver. It is a good comprise with the supercharger from ESS Tuning. I don’t think it is the top car in any area but it is very consistent in all areas. Basically, hoping to be in the top five for all event categories. It isn’t setup for drag but should do well on the road course.”
At the dyno, EAS put down a respectable 492hp and 338 lb-ft of torque. Its performance figures were very close to GSR Autosport’s C63 AMG, with both cars participating in the RWD category.
However, EAS felt that Platte Forme was its biggest competition, due to a similarity in builds. Read the full story in the February 2014 issue to find out if that was the case.
