The festivities of this year’s Monterey Car Week, CA have officially begun. Although there are parties most any night during the car week, Gordon McCall’s Motorworks Revival at the Monterey Jet Center is the official kick-off party and possibly one of the most spectacular.
There is not only everyone who is anyone attending, but also cars you only dream of and planes that take a luxury lifestyle one step further. Food and beverage were not in short supply at the event, and neither were spectacular cars.
Aston Martin had a special presence at the event, celebrating its 100th year. And celebrate they did with many special current and past models from the British automaker scattered across the jet center. The Quail Rally made a special stop at the event, showcasing even more beautiful Aston Martins.
PR and Brand Communications Manager, Matthew Clarke, spoke with us about Aston Martin currently as well as the meaning of the Monterey Car Week to the brand. When asked about the current lineup Clarke stated, “It’s nice and simple now. We have GT cars: the Vanquish, Rapide, Vantage and the new V12 Vantage S.”
It’s not an American event, it’s a global event...It’s a celebration of the automobile.
When asked about the significance of Aston Martin’s 100th year, Clarke recounted:
“There aren’t many manufacturers that started 100 years ago independent and are still independent. It’s a good time to celebrate the past but also celebrate the future at the same time. And if there is an event in the world that does that, it’s Pebble Beach.”
Adding to that point we asked what events Aston focuses on while attending Monterey Car Week and Clarke replied, “The Quail, and Pebble on Sunday of course. But it’s not an American event, it’s a global event and it’s one of the key events in the calendar every year. It’s a celebration of the automobile, celebrating the past but also being receptive to the future.”
And while Aston Martin had the largest presence of any automaker there, others also grabbed our attention while navigating around the parked private jets. One car in particular made its presence known with beautiful attention to detail and wonderful custom touches: A Porsche 964 with a custom body kit. The idea behind this Gulf-colored beauty was to create the ultimate air-cooled 911. The incredibly detailed interior paired with matching luggage (perfect for the Monterey Car Week!) stopped us dead in our tracks. Check out the walk around video below.
Attending the Gordon McCall’s Motoworks Revival is an experience in itself, something any Monterey Car Week frequenter should attend at least once. If not for the good time or food then most definitely for the incredible cars displayed at this swanky kick-off party.
