european car and Audi conspired in 2001 to build up an enticing grand prize for our Audi Assured Pre-Owned Sweepstakes, and the overwhelming number of entry forms we received seemed to indicate everyone in the Audi enthusiast community wanted to win the 1999 Audi A4 2.8 quattro. Over the course of several months (concluding with the 09/01 issue), we dressed the silver sedan with various items from Audi's Accessory Catalog (BBS RC wheels with Audi center caps, sport suspension springs, sport muffler, interior cosmetics, etc.), making the prize all the more desirable. Runners-up were given a beautiful Audi car care kit, which the company sources from the detail experts at Eagle One.

The Sweepstakes culminated in a party at McKenna Motor Company in Norwalk, Calif., its Audi dealership co-hosting the car's official presentation to winner Andresjs Adamovics. The Saturday-morning event included a car show exclusively for Audi owners, which attracted a good sampling of tweaked Audis and members of the Southern California Chapter of the Audi Quattro Club USA.

Vendors and tuners were also on hand to show their latest wares and project cars. Representatives from such firms as INTRAX, CEC, Eibach, StopTech, Ronal and AMS answered questions and offered advice to the enthusiastic group.

After a brief overview by senior editor Les Bidrawn of the A4 and its various modifications, Sweepstakes winner Andresjs Adamovics gleefully accepted its keys and a congratulatory handshake from Editor Brown.

While the Turlock, Calif., resident was the only person who left with a new set of car keys, others on hand received various prizes throughout the day, including a lucky trio of Audi owners who went off with a set of Ronal 17-in. wheels, a set of Yokohama tires and an Eibach Pro Kit suspension package. Others who correctly answered Audi trivia questions walked away with more Audi-related swag.

Sponsor prizes included the following: Mach V Motorsports, $100 gift certificate; Evolution Motorsports, Audi intake system; CEC, $100 gift certificate; Stratmosphere, Forge bypass valve; Intrax, K&N filter, set of lowering springs; Piloti, two pair of driving shoes; McKenna, $500 toward purchase of a new car, $250 toward service, $100 toward parts and accessories; UUC Motorwerks, two $50 gift certificates; Wahoos Fish Tacos, 100 gift certificates for food; Brembo, duffel bags, backpacks, fanny packs and shirts; Stoptech, $100 gift certificate; Stasis Engineering, gift certificate; Driving 101, Champ ride in a two-seat Indy car; Bonspeed, two Camber carbon-fiber watches; AMS, $75 gift certificate; Mechanix Wear, five pairs of gloves. Red Bull also provided plenty of its power drink.

Adamovics, who was selected via a random drawing, thought the official winner's confirmation letter he received in the mail was just another subscription renewal form. "The envelope sat on my desk unopened for several days," said Adamovics, who owns a Mk 4 Jetta. "Once opened, I nearly hit the floor in disbelief. It's the first time I have ever won anything, let alone an Audi A4 quattro!"
