There’s been a lot of changes, or have there?
OK, I never saw it before, but in black & white I look eerily like Bidrawn! Hopefully this transition is going to be easier than I thought.
Sadly, the big man’s gone. The Norwegian Blue is resting, pining for the fjords. Obviously, he’s not bereft of life but Les has wandered off to the lush pastures of “Notthismagazine” and is watching sports in his boxers surrounded by pizza boxes.
Les wasn’t so much an editor as a guardian of european car (and VW & Porsche as it was previously known). I worked with him on numerous occasions and it was always a pleasure to be in his company. Unfortunately, he didn’t get a chance to say farewell, but I know he appreciated your support over the years.
Some of you may know me because this issue represents the merger of two Source Interlink publications: european car and eurotuner. I was the editor of the latter and, between us, we covered the entire European enthusiast scene.
Moving forward, our coverage will no longer be separated; VWs in one, Porsche in the other. The new european car Magazine will represent everybody, from the mildest to the mightiest.
Admittedly, it’s going to take a few months for us to get the recipe right. For our first issue, we’ve attempted to produce a mix of what readers from both magazines would recognize as their own. We aim to vary the ingredients until we get the chemistry right. Hopefully, you’ll assist us with valuable guidance on our progress through email to the address below.
We’re hoping to create a magazine that will satisfy the readers of both european car and eurotuner Magazines, but ask for your patience as we establish a new identity for North America’s only european-themed performance title.
One of our major tasks is to kickstart our online presence, which will be across several formats. We’re keeping both europeancarweb.com as well as eurotuner.com so those previous distinctions will be maintained online. However, it gives enthusiasts their own hub for news, events, updates, forums, etc.
To help distinguish the differences, articles in the mag that display the eurotuner logo will appear on eurotuner.com And in many cases, these articles will appear in a more comprehensive manner, with extra text, data and photos.
We’ll also continue to create our own videos that will appear on both websites and our YouTube pages.
Our main endeavor is to breathe more life into europeancarweb.com with daily news and motorsport updates, blogs, etc. It’s going to become far more interactive for you as we go forward, trying to combine our traditional print format with the latest technology.
Just as we’re coming to terms with all the changes, “Gentle” Neill Bachand has decided to return to easy street in TV-land where we first found him.
Again, this is a difficult farewell because the waif rapidly established himself as an invaluable member of the team. He’s also been responsible for the best videos we’ve produced to date, and his work can be enjoyed online if you have a few hours and some beers to spare.
Obviously he’ll be missed. We wish him well; holding a camera can obviously be punishing work!
